SCWCC Approves Increase in Informal Conference and Hearing Costs

At the August 27, 2012, business meeting, the Commission approved an increase in the informal conference cost assessment pursuant to R67-804. This regulation authorizes the Commission to impose upon the employer’s representative or an attorney the actual costs of the Informal Conference for failure to appear. For FY 2013 the new Informal Conference cost assessment is $389.63, an increase of $30.51 over the current assessment cost for informal conferences approved by the Commission last year.
Also at the same meeting, the Commission approved an increase in the hearing cost assessment pursuant to R67-614. This regulation authorizes the Commission to issue an order assessing the actual cost of a hearing as established by the Commission if the Commission determines that “…the hearing has been brought, prosecuted, or defended on unreasonable grounds.” The new assessment for cases docketed but hearings not conducted is $1,123.49. This is an increase of $108.63 over the current assessment cost approved by the Commission last year.
