Jay Atkins has more than 20 years of legal experience, and has tried cases to verdict in venues across Mississippi and Tennessee. His practice focuses on catastrophic injury and large exposure claims, and he has extensive experience handling school and public entity litigation, construction litigation, transportation litigation, employment litigation and insurance coverage disputes. Jay serves on MGC’s Trucking: Rapid Response Team. Most recently, Jay tried a high-speed, rear-end 18-wheeler case involving traumatic brain injury, in which the jury placed 50% fault on the plaintiff, awarding a verdict for $3.5 million less than the plaintiff’s prior pre-trial settlement demand. He also recently represented the State of Mississippi’s largest school district in an employment discrimination case in which the jury returned a unanimous defense verdict in Federal Court.
As the Litigation Group Leader for Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee, Jay partners with our team of lawyers and legal professionals to continue to evolve our innovative and efficient client service. He routinely presents seminars on legal issues and trial tactics to insurance adjusters, industry representatives and in-house counsel.
Outside of the office, Jay enjoys spending time with his family of five, fishing, duck hunting and watching Memphis Tiger basketball and Tennessee Titans football. Jay and his family moved to a farm at the height of the pandemic, where they raise chickens (currently 22 hens and one rooster), pigs, dairy cows (Annabelle and Dovie) and beef cows (Romeo and Juliet).
